BMHCC
Black Maternal Health Collective Canada (BMHCC) was established in 2024 to support the development of the first official Toronto Black Maternal Health Week, recognized by the City of Toronto to take place annually from April 11 to 17, beginning in 2025.
Recently established, the Black Maternal Health Collective Canada required a rebrand and
campaign designs that would visually support the inaugural Toronto Black Maternal Health
Week as a whole and for each individual event day as well.
Given the multifaceted nature of the project, we worked closely with BMHCC to reach each
milestone: creating a clean, impactful brand identity and print designs that told meaningful
stories of Black mothers and families who have experienced maternal health challenges or
losses, as well as highlighting the vital contributions of doctors, midwives, doulas, and
other speakers who helped educate and inspire throughout Black Maternal Health Week.
BMHCC wasn't looking for a complete rebrand, just an elevation. As their organization works with many sponsors and partners they requested that their re-branding be very recognizable and similar to their inital branding. As their old logo didn't have much meaning, the aim was to create multiple empowering layers to the new logo to embody what BMHCC stands for; community, advocacy and spreading awareness.
Each of the eight event-day designs was intentionally crafted to feel like its own narrative, while still contributing to a larger, unified story centered on Black women’s maternal health and the individuals impacted throughout the journey. I kept the compositions minimal and image-focused to ensure the message remained clear and honest.
The social media designs were developed as a natural extension of the event-day posters, carrying the same visual language, tone, and storytelling approach into a digital space. While the posters anchored the core narratives, the social assets allowed the message to live beyond the physical event.
